This treatment works to restore balance to the face and achieve the ultimate result of reduced and softened wrinkles.

Dermal Filler Treatments

Dermal fillers are specifically designed to reduce the appearance of wrinkles, contour the face, create volume and can also be used to hydrate and revitalise your skin. From subtle softening of facial lines, to restoring youthful facial curves, dermal filler can help to achieve long lasting results in facial enhancement.

A variety of factors contribute to the changes in facial appearance. The primary cause of these changes is due to the aging process and the loss of volume that occurs with ageing. Volume loss, and thus enhancement in facial appearance, can be counteracted through the use of dermal fillers.

Dermal fillers are injectable sugar gels which gently restore structure and volume to the face. The product also contains hyaluronic acid which assists the skin by attracting and holding water, therefore improving not only facial appearance but also skin appearance. Skin is also improved due to the stimulation of the production of collagen thus increasing skin elasticity, structure and volume.

Lip Enhancements

Dermal fillers are also used for lip enhancement. Whether you want to enhance lip volume or define the lip line, our experienced doctors and nurses will help to create the best natural looking result.

As one of the first practices to provide cosmetic injections and facial fillers for clients in Melbourne, we are leaders in the industry and understand the needs and concerns of our clients. If you would like any further information or are ready to make an appointment give us a call on 03 9486 2400 and one of our friendly staff will assist you. Lip enhancement involves injecting dermal filler into portions of the lips and their surrounds in order to define, enhance and provide structure to the lips. Lip enhancement caters to and can correct a broad range of concerns people have with their lips.

Over a period of time the outer layer of the lips become thinner and the corners of the mouth can drop. The v- shaped area of the upper lip (called the cupid’s bow) begins to flatten and the lips lose their youthful fullness. Further to this, vertical lines within the lips develop causing a dehydrated appearance to the lips. Dermal filler within the lip is used to enhance and rejuvenate both the body and border of the lips. It can be used to create extra volume whilst still maintaining a natural look and feel to the body of the lip.

Cutera IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) photo-rejuvenation is used to treat a number of different skin conditions. At Clifton Hill Dermatology our skin therapists have been successfully treating skin redness, telangiectasia (broken capillaries), brown spots and sun damage for many years with IPL.

Cutera IPL is similar to a laser in that it uses an intense beam of light, however IPL can cover a larger body area with each pulse. A powerful hand piece, with multiple settings, packs concentrated power into each pulse to treat varied skin types and conditions. The hand piece eliminates epidermal pigmented lesions by delivering a pulse of intense light, which passes harmlessly through the skin, and is absorbed by the lesion. The light heats the pigment and disables the cells that produced it. Mild crusting will appear approximately 24 hours after the treatment and these dead cells are naturally shed by the body after approximately 7-14 days, leaving behind fresh, more even toned skin. A mild sunburn sensation may be felt for a few hours immediately after the treatment. IPL can also be used as a general rejuvenation treatment for the skin. For IPL photo-rejuvenation on pigmentation we recommend between 1-3 treatments coming in at monthly intervals. For dermal or stubborn pigmentation we recommend treating with our Fraxel dual laser.

Intense Pulsed Light also treats visible blood vessels, such as those caused by Rosacea by heating the haemoglobin within the vein. The absorption of the heat causes the veins to collapse and fade from view. Mild redness may occur for a few hours immediately after treatment, along with a mild sunburn sensation. We recommend patients come in for treatment between 4-6 weeks apart and anywhere from 3 or more treatments may be needed for broken vessels and

All of these treatments are quick and very tolerable. Most patients describe the light pulses as a ‘snapping’ sensation, which causes mild discomfort at the most. After the treatment there may be some redness for a few days, which quickly fades revealing rejuvenated skin.

Cutera IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) hair reduction treatment works by emitting pulses of intense lamplight into the hair follicles. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the follicles and converted to heat. The heat then loosens the hair and disables the follicular cells responsible for growing new hair. Most hair removed by the IPL will not grow back for months, whilst other hair may not grow back at all. The hair which does grow back may be thinner and lighter in colour. Blonde, grey hair or red hair will not respond with IPL, as there is no pigment in the hair follicle for the lamplight to attach to. Most patients usually need approximately 6 treatments and recommended to come in for monthly treatments. Some patients may have hormonal imbalances and therefore may need more treatments.

Any area of the body can be treated, except around the eyes. After the initial preparation, a wand-like hand piece is placed over the skin. Most people perceive the light as a gentle ‘snapping’ sensation. You may experience some redness and mild tenderness in the area for a short time afterwards, but it does not interfere with normal day to day activities. Most patients require a number of treatments to achieve optimal hair reduction results from Cutera IPL.

At Clifton Hill Dermatology we offer Fraxel restore Dual Laser treatment for a complete skin rejuvenation of areas such as the face, neck, chest, hands and isolated areas.

Fraxel Dual is a non-ablative fractional resurfacing laser treatment which creates thousands of microscopic columns of laser energy to penetrate the skin, stimulating the skin’s natural wound- healing response. Fractional lasers allow for effective treatment of skin with less downtime and less risk, as the laser treatment is performed over an entire area of concern but will only pick out a percentage of the skin to treat. This allows for faster healing time and a greater range of skin types such as olive or darker skins to be treated, with less risk of causing pigmentation problems, which conventional ablative lasers cannot treat.

Most treatments cover between 20-45% of skin per session, depending on the patients skin problem and skin type, this means patients do require a number of sessions. The sessions are usually spaced 4-6 weeks apart. With the latest dual wavelength technology, 1550nm and 1927nm wavelengths, we have the option to treat higher into the skins layers for pigmentation or deeper into the dermis for problems such as acne scarring and textural improvement.

Fraxel® Dual laser treatment is proven to be effective for the treatment of the following skin problems:
● Age spots and sunspots (pigmented lesions)
● Melasma
● Acne scars and surgical scars
● Wrinkles and fine lines
● Skin resurfacing

The Candela Vbeam Perfecta laser effectively treats rosacea, as well as other vascular abnormalities such as poikiloderma, port wine stains and facial veins. The VBeam laser produces an intense but gentle burst of light that selectively destroys the blood vessels of vascular lesion, without damaging the surrounding tissue. The advantage of the VBeam laser is that the majority of patients with benign vascular lesions, from infants to adults, can be treated safely.

Treating these skin conditions with Vbeam Laser does require a course of treatments; this varies depending on what condition is being treated and severity of the condition. The laser treatment is relatively tolerable especially due to the dynamic cooling method or DCD.

Patients can expect to feel a “snapping” sensation on the skin when the pulse is delivered. Most patients report a sensation similar to mild sunburn after the treatment, redness usually goes away in a few hours. Permanency depends on several factors, including the condition being treated and the patient’s lifestyle. Talk with your practitioner about your goals and expectation for treatment.
